Red vein removal

The fine red veins that appear just beneath the surface of your skin, are commonly known as spider or thread veins, and are, essentially, broken and enlarged blood vessels. They can appear on the face, legs or anywhere on the body. Red veins are not dangerous but can look unattractive, especially in areas where the skin is visible and can be a nuisance to cover up, even with the thickest make up.

At Bank MediSpa in Hale, Cheshire, Dr A and his team offer red vein removal, using the LUMINA laser, from Lynton Lasers, a British manufacturer of medical-grade lasers for a variety of skin and hair concerns.

Why do red spider / thread veins appear?

There are several reasons why you may be noticing the appearance of red veins -

    • A natural, genetic predisposition to the condition. Some are more prone to red veins than others.
    • Excessive sun exposure - this can enlarge blood vessels and bring them closer to the skin’s surface.
    • Fluctuations in bodily pressure (hard sneezing, straining)
    • Climate changes (sudden heat / cold) which can affect the circulatory system.
    • Hormonal changes / pregnancy.
    • Certain chemicals or pollutants that damage or thin the skin.
    • Bruising – trauma to the skin.
    • Skin conditions such as rosacea.
    • Excessive alcohol consumption – alcohol temporarily dilates the blood vessels and with constant exposure to alcohol, the blood vessels are damaged permanently.

What is laser red vein removal?

The LUMINA laser emits a specifically-chosen wavelength of light energy in very short pulses on to the red vein. This light is absorbed by the vessel, causing it to coagulate. The remaining vein is then broken down, naturally, by the body. The surrounding tissues remain unharmed and unmarked, therefore there is very little-to-no downtime or side-effects from this treatment.

Am I suitable for red vein removal?

Before a laser treatment for red veins can commence, here at our clinic in Hale, Cheshire, we will ask that you attend a no obligation, pre-treatment consultation, so that you can discuss your concerns with the doctor, have your medical history checked and have an examination of the area/s to be treated, so that you can be confident that laser red vein removal will be beneficial and safe for you to undergo.

How many treatments will I need?

In many cases, laser thread vein removal can work in as little as one treatment. However, in your no obligation consultation, the expected number of sessions required will be discussed, so that your expectations are realistic, and you can plan your treatment course, accordingly.

How long do the results last?

The results from red vein removal are permanent. However, this will not prevent new red veins appearing. During your treatment sessions you’ll be given some useful advice on how to prevent further red vein outbreaks and to maintain the results we achieve for you, here at Bank MediSpa.
