Botox for excessive sweating, migraines and teeth grinding

Most of us know that Botox® is one of the most effective non-surgical injectable treatments for treating expression lines and dynamic wrinkles. It takes around 10 minutes to administer and the results can last up to 6 months at a time. But did you know, that Botox® has many other uses, such as treating excessive sweating, helping reduce the symptoms of migraines and for teeth grinding. At Bank MediSpa, we not only offer Botox® for anti-ageing purposes, but also for the aforementioned concerns, which can be problematic and emotionally upsetting for many people.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is actually the brand name for a substance called Botulinum Toxin Type A. When ingested, it can cause botulism and even paralysis. However, when injected, it offers significant benefits as it blocks certain chemical signals from nerves, mostly the ones that cause muscles to contract. This is why, the most common use of Botox® injections is to temporarily relax facial muscles that cause dynamic (expression) wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. However, Botox® injections can also help to treat a variety of concerns safely and extremely effectively:

  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) – This condition occurs even when the temperature isn’t hot and the patient is not exerting themselves. It can cause intense emotional embarrassment and affects aspects of normal life such as socialising, work and choosing clothing.
  • Chronic migraine – Botox injections may help reduce migraine headache frequency, if the patient suffers from migraines more than 15 days per month.
  • Teeth grinding – By relaxing the masseter muscles in the jaw, Botox® can dramatically reduce excessive and involuntary teeth grinding, which in itself can cause issues such as headaches and damaged teeth.

Botox for hyperhidrosis

After an initial consultation to assess whether Botox® for hyperhidrosis will be both safe and effective for you to undergo, you will be invited to the clinic for treatment. Small doses of Botox® will be injected using very fine needles in to the area/s of concern. This can take as little as 10 minutes. Some pain relief may be offered in the form of numbing cream, which can take 30 to 45 minutes to take effect. Once the treatment is finished, you can return to your daily activities. It can take between 24 hours and 2 weeks for the results to take effect and this treatment can offer up to 6 months’ relief from excessive sweating.

Botox for migraines

Using Botox® injections in certain areas of the back of the neck, head and shoulders can offer significant relief from the symptoms of migraines and can lead to less frequent episodes. The treatment is relatively pain free as very fine needles are used. Results can last up to 6 months, when you will need a top up treatment to keep your migraines at bay.

Botox® for teeth grinding

Involuntary teeth grinding can cause all sorts of issues, from chipped tooth enamel to headaches and even a square looking jaw. By injecting small doses of Botox® in to the masseter muscles (the muscles either side of the jaw), these muscles are relaxed and teeth grinding is reduced. Again, results can last up to 6 months. Many female patients who feel their jaw is rather square and who would like to obtain a slimmer jawline, undergo Botox® injections for a more heart shaped, less square appearance to their faces. Therefore this treatment offers a myriad of benefits.

Am I suitable for Botox® injections at Bank MediSpa?

Before any treatment can be carried out here at Bank MediSpa, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation, so that you can discuss your health concerns, your requirements for results and the options that are available to you. We will also check your medical history to ensure that Botox® will be a safe treatment for you. Once both you and your practitioner are satisfied that Botox® will be a suitable procedure for you to undergo, you can book your appointment for treatment.
