What is Profhilo®?

Profhilo® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable skincare. It is not thick like a dermal filler, but more fluid and assists in the rejuvenation of the skin’s architecture from the inside, over a course of 2 treatments. Profhilo® contains superlative quality HA and stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It helps to restore that bouncy and plump skin texture that is so synonymous with youth and vitality . Profhilo® does not physically augment the skin like a dermal filler as it doesn’t sit innately under the skin to literally ‘plump’ it up, but integrates with the skin tissues to communicate with the cells for repair and revitalisation. Profhilo® can be used effectively as a stand-alone treatment for an overall anti-ageing effect, or can be used in conjunction with other aesthetic treatments such as dermal fillers, if you require an instant filling effect and with Botox® anti-wrinkle injections, for a holistic approach to anti-ageing cosmetic treatments.

How does Profhilo® work?

Profhilo works by harnessing the slow release of hyaluronic acid (HA) over 2 treatment sessions. Injections of the HA substance are administered at 5 localised points around the area of concern. This stimulates 4 types of collagen and elastin and after 2 sessions, a month apart, you can expect to see tighter, more toned and more revitalised glowing skin with reduced lines and wrinkles. If you have a significant amount of skin ageing which needs intensive treatment, another ‘top up’ session may be required around 6 months after your initial course.

Is Profhilo safe?

Profhilo was first launched in February 2015 in Italy and has been used, globally with over 150,000 patients treated so far with no adverse reactions or side-effects reported. Profhilo is made from an ultrapure and natural hyaluronic acid with no chemical cross-linking (thickening) agents, which significantly reduces the risk of adverse reactions. As HA is a naturally occurring substance within the body, it is very well tolerated by the skin. The only possible side-effects may be slight swelling, localized lumps, redness or tenderness at the point of injection which is quite natural for any injectable treatment and will subside within a few hours.

When will I notice a difference?

This depends on your individual response to treatment. You may notice results after around 4 weeks following your first treatment but many patients see an improvement after 1 or 2 days. Some people find that they don’t see an improvement until after their second treatment but optimum effects will be seen at around 8 to 10 weeks after the initial treatment.

Due to the very high concentration of HA in Profhilo, the quality of the skin tissues can be significantly improved making it a superb treatment to use as a stand-alone treatment or in conjunction with other injectables such as wrinkle-smoothing injections.

How is Profhilo® different?
