Tattoo removal

From as early as 3100 BC, the art of tattooing the skin has been practiced by all nationalities all around the globe. Nowadays, around 35% of adults from the ages of 30 to 40 in the UK have tattoos. Ink art is hugely popular, however, it’s a permanent fixture once completed and many people can find that a design that was once very fashionable 10 years ago, might not be the case, now. What’s more, people’s tastes change and what might have been a celebrated piece of body art might not be relevant, for the wearer later on in life. So what happens when a tattoo is no longer wanted? At Bank MediSpa, we use some of the world’s most state-of-the-art laser technology from Lynton Lasers, a highly-respected UK manufacturer of medical and aesthetic equipment, to permanently remove unwanted tattoos in a course of treatment.

What results can I expect from a laser tattoo removal treatment?

There is a very high success rate with this treatment, due to the LUMINA laser technology, as darker shades of ink such as black, blue and green can be removed. In a course of treatment, you should see dramatic results where the pigment is removed from the skin. However, there may be a slight difference in your skin tone around the treated area to your surrounding skin, which is usually slightly lighter and an outline of the tattoo shape may be left on the skin, but the pigment should be fully and permanently removed.

FAQs

What is laser tattoo removal?

Specially selected wavelengths of laser penetrate the skin with an intense light. This light breaks up the ink particles which form the tattoo. Over time and in a series of treatment sessions, the tattoo will gradually fade. Your body’s own immune system will also remove the ink pigments naturally, as the treatment continues. The clever thing about laser tattoo removal is that it only targets the pigmented skin, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

The LUMENIS laser, from Lynton Lasers offers Q-Switched, ND Yag laser technology, the most frequently used laser for tattoo removal, due to its efficacy at removing a variety of pigment colours. The Lynton family of laser technologies enables the team here at our clinic in Hale, Cheshire to meet all patient demands quickly, safely and effectively’ using the most advanced procedures and protocols.

Am I suitable for laser tattoo removal?

Most people with a tattoo, who have no contraindications to laser treatments can benefit from this procedure. However, there are some skin types and medical conditions which are considered unsafe and unsuitable for laser therapies. This is why we ask that you attend a no obligation, pre-treatment consultation with Dr A, so that you can discuss the treatment at length and disclose your medical history. This will also give Dr A a chance to examine your skin as well as the tattoo to be treated and then make a decision on whether the treatment will be both safe and beneficial for your requirements.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

As laser tattoo removal uses an intense light which creates heat, this can be uncomfortable, rather like having an elastic band flicked on to the skin. However, using the most modern Lynton Laser technologies and additional cooling equipment, the discomfort of this treatment has been reduced considerably, compared to older technologies and techniques. The discomfort of having laser tattoo removal is far less than having the tattoo in the first place, so you should be able to tolerate the treatment without a problem.

How long does a laser tattoo removal treatment take?

This is all dependent on the size, location and colour scheme of the tattoo. However, a typical session lasts between 30 and 40minutes. Your specific treatment will be discussed in a pre-treatment consultation with Dr A, as everyone is unique and requires a tailored course of sessions.
