Static Wrinkles
Static wrinkles, on the other hand, develop due to the loss of collagen and elasticity. This usually starts when we’re in our 20’s and occurs at a rate of 1-1.5% each year, with the effects taking several years to become noticeable. When developed, these wrinkles are visible even when the face is at rest, forming in areas where the skin is thinner, such as the cheeks and neck.
Extrinsic factors like sun exposure, smoking, and pollution can accelerate the ageing process, leading to premature lines and wrinkles. UV rays from the sun, in particular, contribute to collagen breakdown and elastin fibre damage, resulting in sagging skin and deep wrinkles.
