Cellulite

Cellulite is a common skin condition characterised by dimpled, lumpy, and uneven skin texture, often likened to an orange peel or cottage cheese.

It primarily affects the thighs, buttocks, and sometimes other areas like the abdomen and arms. It is more prevalent in women than men due to a difference in the structure of the connective tissues, and areas of fat distribution. Its appearance can be influenced by factors like genetics, hormones, and lifestyle.

The key characteristics of cellulite are the result of fat cells pushing through the connective tissue beneath the skin. This creates a bumpy surface as the fat cells accumulate and exert pressure on the surrounding tissue. Additionally, changes in collagen and elastin fibres in the skin can contribute to the dimpled appearance.

Several factors can contribute to the development of cellulite. Hormones, particularly oestrogen, play a significant role. Genetics also play their part, as some individuals may be predisposed to develop cellulite due to their genetic makeup. Lifestyle factors such as poor diet, sedentary behaviour, and smoking can exacerbate the condition. Additionally, age and fluctuations in body weight can contribute to the appearance of cellulite. This concern is often associated with weight gain, or being obese. However, it can also affect those who have a slimmer build.

Cellulite can have a notable impact on the appearance and self-confidence of individuals affected by it. Many people may feel self-conscious about wearing revealing clothing or participating in activities that expose the affected areas. Despite being a benign condition from a medical standpoint, the cosmetic aspect of cellulite can lead some to seek treatment options to improve its appearance.

At Bank Medispa we have a range of body treatments that can help to improve the condition of the skin, and the appearance of cellulite. These include ONDA Body Contouring, Morpheus8 and Profhilo Body.
