Myths and Facts About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular and effective non-surgical treatments to rejuvenate the skin, plump up areas of lost volume and increase hydration within the skin’s tissues. It can provide total facial rejuvenation or subtle enhancement to chosen features such as the cheeks, lips, under eye bags and temples.

However, there are lots of myths and ‘scare stories’ surrounding dermal fillers, due to their misuse by some unscrupulous practitioners, resulting in less than favourable results and reports in the media of when things can go wrong.

At Doctor A Aesthetics, we aim to give our patients as much in-depth advice and knowledge of all our procedures so you can make a wise and informed decision on whether a treatment will be right for you.

Below are 5 myths and facts about dermal fillers you may not already know:

Myth #1 – Dermal fillers can be injected by anyone and in any beauty salon or clinic

Fact – Only a medical professional is well educated and trained to inject a dermal fillers and they should only be administered in a medical office.

Your safety is paramount when recieving any dermal filler injections, as complications can be very serious. Ensure you visit a qualified medical professional (doctor, nurse or dentist) and undergo a full consultation before getting dermal fillers in Cheshire, or at any clinic across the UK.

Myth #2 – It takes time for dermal fillers to work

Fact – Hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers give both immediate results and accumulative results. As dermal fillers are contained in a gel, this is placed within the tissues of the skin and physically lifts up these tissues. Over time, the HA will improve the skin quality and hydration, softening the features and giving the skin a more hydrated look.

Myth #3 – Dermal fillers don’t last very long

Fact – HA dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6 to 12 months and sometimes longer in many cases. The longevity of product depends on the quality of product used as well as the individual’s response and treatment area. A healthy person can expect dermal fillers to last longer than someone who smokes and exposes their skin to excessive sunlight.

Myth #4 – Dermal fillers are just like Botox

Fact – Botox is a toxin which when injected, temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic lines (expression lines) and wrinkles. This is a chemical interaction with the skin tissues. HA dermal fillers not only physically alter the architecture of the skin by plumping out the tissues, but further improves skin tone and texture by hydration caused by the hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers are more suitable for static lines, wrinkles, hollows and furrows in the skin.

Myth #5 – I will get a ‘trout pout’ or ‘pillow face’ if I have dermal fillers

Fact – When injected by a medically-trained and highly-skilled professional such as Dr A, the results you will get from dermal fillers will be natural and beautiful. Dr A is not only medically qualified but artistically skilful to observe your facial anatomy and only inject the amount needed in a particular area to subtly enhance and beautify that feature, whilst maintaining balance in relation to your entire face.

If you are unhappy with the dermal filler treatment you have recieved for whatever reason, be it overfilling or otherwise, then it is possible to dissolve this. Doctor A always has Hyaluronidase (aka Hyalase) on hand, so that the hyaluronic acid that makes up the dermal filler can be broken down. It is then naturally removed by your body’s waste system.

Change of heart? Bad result? Lumpy lips? Doctor A is available on call to discuss any dermal filler complications and his Cheshire clinic is open for dermal filler reversal.
