When should I get Botox? Treatment vs a cure against wrinkles

Botox is now one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments in the UK. Made hugely popular by celebrities, this injectable treatment which is suitable for all skin types is quick to administer and can last up to 8 months for many people. But when is a good time to start having Botox to reduce expression lines and wrinkles?

Here at Bank MediSpa in Altrincham and Warrington, we aim to give you sensible advice so that you are fully equipped with all the information you need to make an informed decision about Botox.

The ageing process

As we age, the skin loses its elasticity, hydration and density. Along with sun exposure and other environmental factors, this can lead to skin laxity, loss of firmness and expression lines and wrinkles forming around the eyes, forehead, between the eyebrows and down the sides of the nose. We would generally start to see the signs of skin ageing at around 25 to 30 years of age.

If you are someone that likes the sun and perhaps smokes, drinks alcohol regularly and does not practice a good skincare regime at home, the age at which your skin could show these signs can be younger than 25.

Serums, creams and lotions can only do so much and when lines and wrinkles start to form, this may be the time to consider a little extra help with the battle against ageing.

Botox in Hale: Extra help against ageing

Botox helps to relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles using tiny doses of a substance called Botulinum Toxin. As a rule, it’s best to start having Botox treatments when these lines and wrinkles start to show, as regular use of Botox can actually, prevent more wrinkles appearing, as the muscles that cause these wrinkles are relaxed on a long-term basis.

It’s worth knowing that for various ages, we can treat using various doses of Botox. For younger patients of around 25, a treatment which is becoming really popular here in the UK, called ‘Baby Botox’, is on the rise. This involves using smaller doses than a standard treatment with Botox, for the finer lines and wrinkles on a more youthful face.

As we get older we may need to increase the dosage gradually, therefore, starting with a smaller dose and increasing over time is the best way forward.

At Bank MediSpa, Dr. Ahmed takes a very sensible approach to cosmetic injectable treatments and wouldn’t treat someone younger than around 23 to 24 years of age with Botox.

It’s best to start with a specific anti-ageing treatment when it is really needed, so that it remains beneficial for more years to come. For younger patients, Dr. Ahmed can recommend alternative treatments to improve skin tone, texture and quality.
