Polynucleotides

At Bank Medispa in Hale, Cheshire we pride ourselves in offering the safest, state-of-the-art and clinically-proven, highly- effective cosmetic treatments, so that you can look and feel amazing, inside and out. For the rejuvenation of ageing or damaged skin, we are excited to be one of the first clinics in the UK to introduce a new injectable treatment. It’s by no means a product which has only come to the market, as it has been used in medical skin and tissue healing for over 35 years and researched for over 40 years. The treatment utilises polynucleotides, a substance which is highly biocompatible for use in humans and is ethically and sustainably sourced.

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are DNA fractions which have been extracted from the sperm of either salmon or trout. When purified and injected in to specific areas of the face, polynucleotides assist with the hydration of ageing skin by attracting water molecules. They also encourage skin healing by accelerating the production of collagen and elastin, as well as initiating the body’s own fibroblast production for improved skin resilience. Polynucleotides create anti-free radical actions by scavenging OH hydroxyl radicals, which can accumulate, as a result of cell damage caused by UV rays, pollution and stress. The overall result? – a healthier and thicker epidermis (up to 52% in 23 days), increased collagen within the skin tissues (up to 47% in 23 days), reduced inflammation and a more hydrated skin appearance. Dr A uses the Dermafocus range of polynucleotides, for their exemplary record of safety and efficacy, here at Bank Medispa.

Frequently asked questions

What can Polynucleotides treat within the skin?

Injectable Polynucleotides have been found to be extremely versatile for skin healing and rejuvenation and can be an effective solution for the following skin and hair concerns:-

  • General signs of ageing such as lines, wrinkles and facial hollows
  • Skin laxity and a crêpey appearance
  • Acne and trauma scars
  • Loss of hydration within the skin
  • Hyperpigmentation, sun spots and age spots
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Hair loss (male and female alopecia)
  • Stretch marks

Which areas of the face and body can be treated with polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides can treat a variety of facial and bodily areas. The most commonly treated areas however, tend to include:

  • The whole face
  • The neck
  • The eye area ( polynucleotides have been proven to be an effective alternative under eye treatment to traditional HA dermal fillers, for those who are sensitive or allergic to HA)
  • The abdomen
  • The décolleté
  • The upper arms
  • The knees.

Am I suitable for a treatment with Polynucleotides with Dr A, at Bank Medispa?

Polynucleotides have been proven to yield very few side-effects or allergic reactions, as they are highly purified and very biocompatible in humans. However, as we are a medical clinic here at Bank Medispa and must adhere to regulations to uphold our duty of care, to all our patients, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation, skin analysis and medical history check with Dr A, before we decide upon administering any injectable treatment. Once we are satisfied that polynucleotides will be a suitable option for your individual concerns, and that there are no contraindications which may prevent or restrict the treatment from going ahead, you can book your first treatment session.

What happens in a treatment using Polynucleotides at Bank Medispa?

We will ask you to complete some standard consent forms prior to your first treatment using polynucleotides. After which, we will make you comfortable in one of our treatment rooms and your skin will be gently cleansed. A topical anaesthetic will be applied for your comfort and after around 30 minutes, small injections of the Polynucleotides will be administered in various points of the treatment area/s. You may feel some slight stinging sensations, as polynucleotides are mixed with a saline solution, but this is by no means unbearable. When the treatment is complete, you will be able to continue your daily activities as normal, ensuring that you follow any aftercare instructions that Dr A advises.

What are the side-effects from a treatment with Polynucleotides?

Unlike some traditional dermal filler treatments, there is very little-to-no risk of permanent lumping, occlusion and other related complications with polynucleotides. The product is extremely pure and integrates well within the skin. Therefore, there have been no adverse side-effects recorded to-date, with this product. However, as with many injectable treatments, there may be some ‘cosmetic’ downtime that you experience with a polynucleotides treatment (pin-prick bruising, light swelling & redness). You might also feel some slight tenderness in the treatment area for a few hours to a day, after this treatment, so it’s worth planning this treatment in advance of any special events or parties, leaving sufficient time for any cosmetic side-effects to disperse.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

This depends on your individual skin concern and its severity. However, in most cases, we usually recommend 3 treatment sessions, 2 to 4 weeks apart for optimum results and then maintenance sessions once every 6 months to keep your skin looking its very best.

When will I see the results?

This all depends on several factors; your body’s response to the treatment, your lifestyle, the way you look after your skin and environmental influences. In most cases however, our patients tend to experience results around 4 weeks after their second session and then see continuous improvement in the weeks that follow their 3rd session. After which, optimum results should be seen at around week 4 after the 3rd session.
