Double Chin / Tech Neck

A double chin, also known as submental fat, is an excess of fat beneath the chin that creates a noticeable fold or fullness. In some cases, this concern is associated with a weak jawline / receding chin, when more of the skin around the neck is being exposed. Depending on the cause, this concern can also be referred to as ‘tech neck’, a nick-name that’s become relevant as the use of technical devices increases.

Both conditions can lead to a less defined jawline and neck, making individuals appear older or heavier than they actually are. These concerns can also contribute to a less youthful and balanced facial profile, affecting overall aesthetic appeal.

A double chin, or submental fat, can be caused by several factors. Genetics, weight gain, and ageing can lead to a buildup of excess fat under the chin. Weakening skin elasticity and muscle tone, along with lifestyle factors, can also contribute to the appearance of a double chin. Although in this case, it’s more likely that excess skin is the main contributing factor.

When we talk about ‘tech neck’ it’s usually excess / stretched skin that’s the likely cause. This occurs from repetitive bending of the neck while using electronic devices. This posture places strain on the neck and upper spine, leading to premature ageing of the skin and muscles in the neck area. Over time, it can cause wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of definition in the neck and jawline.

Bank Medispa can treat a double chin / tech neck in a variety of ways, depending on its cause. We may recommend the use of dermal fillers to recontour a weak jaw / chin so less skin is exposed. Or we may suggest skin tightening or skin boosters to restore firmness to lax skin. However, if excess fatty deposits are found to be the cause, our ONDA Body Contouring treatment can help to remove stubborn areas of excess fatty tissue.
