PRP

A clinically-proven treatment for skin and hair loss

We all want the most healthy looking skin and a full head of hair for as long as possible and although many of us look to achieve this from clinic-led treatments such as injectables, some of us may feel more comfortable selecting a natural alternative to synthetic injectable substances. At Bank Medispa in Hale, Cheshire we offer a highly-effective, clinically-proven injectable treatment for many skin and hair loss conditions, which harnesses your body’s own, natural growth factors. This treatment is called PRP (or Platelet-Rich Plasma).

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) was originally used as a medical practice for wound healing of the skin and the joints. Since then and upon discovery of its skin and hair restoration properties PRP has begun to be widely used in cosmetic medicine.

PRP utilises the natural healing components of your body which are harnessed by taking a sample of your blood and spinning the sample in a centrifuge to extract the growth factors within the blood (PRP). This is then be injected back in to specific areas of the face, body or scalp to stimulate healing and regeneration.

PRP stimulates substances such as collagen, elastin and also helps to maximise the growth of cells within the skin. It improves hydration and local blood supply, improving the quality of your skin and stimulating new hair growth.

Frequently asked questions

Am I suitable for a PRP treatment at Bank Medispa?

Before we can agree to carry out a PRP treatment for skin rejuvenation or hair loss conditions, we will ask that you attend a no obligation consultation and skin or hair analysis. We will also check your medical history, to ensure that there are no contraindications which could prevent or restrict your PRP treatment from going ahead. Once we are satisfied that you will be a suitable candidate for PRP, and have given you all the information you need to make an informed decision on whether to go ahead, you can then book your first treatment.

What happens during a PRP treatment at Bank Medispa?

During the PRP treatment, a small sample of blood is taken from your arm via a syringe (just like a blood test at your GPs). The blood sample is then placed in to a specially designed centrifuge which separates the PRP growth factors from the blood. The PRP is then injected in to the treatment areas. Once the PRP begins to stimulate the injection site, the growth factors and regenerative molecules are released, increasing collagen and elastin formation as well as cellular growth and remodelling. The final result is rejuvenated, more youthful and healthy looking skin and the stimulation of new, healthy hair growth.

Does a PRP treatment hurt?

As with any cosmetic treatment where a needle is used to inject a substance in to the skin, there may be some level of discomfort, depending on your tolerance levels. We can apply a topical anaesthetic to make things more comfortable for you. For hair restoration, PRP can be quite uncomfortable, but with use of analgesics such as Paracetamol, beforehand, this will assist in minimising discomfort.

Are there any risks or side-effects with a PRP treatment?

As PRP utilises a substance which comes from your own blood, side-effects and adverse reactions are extremely rare. You might notice a little swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection sites but this is quite normal and will subside in a few hours.

How many PRP sessions will I need?

For skin concerns, an average PRP treatment is usually performed in a series of three sessions, carried out 3 to 8 weeks apart for optimum results. Hair restoration may require more treatments. Maintenance treatments are usually recommended every 6 to 12 months, after the initial course of treatment.

How long do the results last?

For skin concerns, results from a course of PRP can last anything up to 12 months, after which, a maintenance treatment or course of treatments is then recommended, depending on your individual requirements. For hair concerns, one the hair has grown, it should remain healthy for many years, with regular maintenance sessions at the advised intervals. If you follow a healthy lifestyle and take care of your skin and hair, by eating a healthy diet and avoiding health-risking choices such as smoking and too much sun exposure, you can enjoy healthier looking skin and hair for longer.
